Noun & Pronoun

Nouns and Pronouns are two of the most important parts of speech in English Grammar. A noun gives a name to a person, place, animal, thing, or idea, while a pronoun is used in place of a noun to avoid repetition.

Note: Every sentence usually contains a noun or pronoun because they help identify who or what we are talking about.
What is a Noun? (संज्ञा)

A Noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing, or idea.

Person → Ram, Mohan, Teacher
Place → Delhi, School, Market
Animal → Dog, Cat, Cow
Thing → Book, Pen, Mobile
Idea → Honesty, Love, Happiness
Sentence Examples

Ram is a good boy.
The dog is barking.
Delhi is the capital of India.
This book is very useful.
Honesty is the best policy.

All highlighted words are nouns because they name a person, place, animal, thing, or idea.

Why are Nouns Important?

Without nouns, it would be impossible to identify people, places, or objects in a sentence.

Incorrect: Is running.

The noun "Ram" tells us who is performing the action.
